Since you’re reading this, you have an Internet connection. You have at your fingertips the information you need to slip by all your competition and slide your resume on top of the stack.

1. Go online and find the Web site of your prospective employer. Read everything on the site. Make some notes. Look up the biography of the person you’re meeting with.

2. Organize your notes into two groups: notes on things to say and notes on things to ask.

3. Write out some conversation starters or stimulators. Examples: "Your widgets are state-of-the-art, cutting-edge technology, that’s impressive." Or, "I noticed you haven’t been with the company but a short time." Nothing earth-shaking, just enough to let your interviewer know you’ve done your home work. He'll take it from there.

4. Write out some questions. Examples: "Your widgets are state-of-the-art, cutting-edge technology, how long have you been making them?" Or, "I noticed you haven’t been with the company but a short time, what was the main reason you came over here?"

You’ve got the idea. Talk positively about the company and your interviewer in a way that shows you’ve done your homework. I GUARANTEE you will make a positive impression. That little extra effort will payoff big for you when it comes time to select the best candidate for the job. Talk as much about your prospective employer as you talk about yourself.
